About the event
Young people in Kenya and across the world have a deliberate mandate and opportunity to enhance the sustainability of our marine resources by appreciating the role Oceans play in livelihood generation and humanity. In December 2008, the United Nations officially slotted 8th June of every year as the day for the Oceans. Since then, various groups have joined hands in ensuring the future of the Oceans across the world is guaranteed. Oceans can be described as the lungs of the world as they supply a considerable amount of Oxygen uptake by living organisms including human beings. Besides, Oceans are important habitats for a large diversity of aquatic creatures (over 210000 species) which, in turn, sustain the world. 97% of the world waters are found in Oceans, covering over 75% of the Earth surface and directly dependent upon by over 3 billion people.
